The location was stunning. Our room had a magnificent view of Pedi Bay. The apartment was well equipped and very clean. We were close to a supermarket, 2 x tavernas, beach and the bus stop. Our host, Maria, was an absolute star and made our stay even more pleasurable. Nothing was too much trouble for her. We will be back.

Architecture

Symi was declared an early settlement, and managed to maintain the central character of its architecture. This was done in 1971 and specifically with the ministerial decision no. 24908 / 23-10-1971 where the settlement is considered a “historic place in need of special protection”. Ocher, salmon, red, light blue, white. The color palette becomes more and more bold in the large neoclassical houses of Gialos that have been restored. The rest of the settlement, a mixture of Aegean architecture with Venetian elements, is equally impressive in appearance and size. Neoclassical facades, symmetrical openings, windows and doors with balconies make the buildings of Gialos look like human faces. Two-legged and three-legged captain’s houses, painted with the palette of color freedom. Roof, courtyards paved with pebbles, decorative floors, gables and tiled roofs. Images in indigo and ocher that directly refer to the period of great prosperity, the 19th century and the current of neoclassicism.

Kali Strata

It is a set of 500 wide steps that connect Gialos with the Village. Along the way one realizes the beauty of the traditional settlement of unique architecture with the two-storey houses, built next to each other, so as to form a “natural” wall. Also, in several parts of the route, the view of the endless blue and the sea emerges between the mansions.

The statue of “Michalakis”

The statue of the little fisherman "Michalakis", depicts a child holding a fishing rod. This is a statue of the famous Symian sculptor Costas Valsamis, who inspired and created it in the form of a Symian boy, because in Symi there are many young and old fishermen !!!

Beaches

Beach - Agia Marina

Agia Marina is an independent, rocky island with crystal clear waters, which is located in the chapel of Agia Marina. It is accessible on foot or by boat – taxi. Access, however, with “TAXI BOATS” is only on the opposite organized side, where one finds sun loungers, a gazebo for coffee and snacks and a separate tavern. However, one can swim in the clear blue waters up to the island opposite and enjoy the magic of the landscape. The waters are crystal clear, ideal for diving and very safe for children.

Beach - Saint George

It is the largest and most impressive beach on the island due to the vertical rock located on the site. It is accessible only by sea. It is located on the east side of the island, between Pedi and Marathounta.

Nanou Beach

According to some people, you can hike to Nanou Beach, but most people visit on a boat ride or water taxi. We approached by kayak! This is very similar to Saint George Bay Beach, although the water colour is not quite as impressive.

Agios Nikolaos / Saint Nicholas Beach

It's not a long walk from Pedi bay to Saint Nicholas beach – it should take you 10 or 15 minutes. The walk follows a path along the coastline and it's well marked. You'll get to see some wild herbs of Symi along the way – Oregano was in season when we went!On arrival, you'll be greeted with the view of a nice beach which during high season has umbrellas and sunbeds for hire, along with a taverna for snacks and drinks.Still, you should bring your own drinks just in case it's closed when you get there! The swimming here looks excellent, and if you're staying in Pedi, it will probably be your Symi beach of choice.

Marathunda Beach

If you're visiting the Panormitis Monastery in the south of Symi, make time in your road trip itinerary to check out the crystal clear waters at Marathounda. Taxi boats may also reach as far as here.

Nimborio Beach

You can either take a water taxi or make a 30 minute walk from Symi town to reach this small bay. Its a thin stretch of beach, but quite relaxing!

Pedi Beach

Pedi Beach

Nos Beach

Within walking distance of the main port town, go past the clock tower and towards Gialos. It's a popular beach due to its proximity with Symi town. You can expect sunbeds and umbrellas here.

Panormitis Beach

If you are taking a trip by car to the Archangel Michael Panormitis monastery, you might want to swim at the Panormitis beach. There are facilities such as a small bakery, taverna and coffee shop next to the monastery.

Toli Beach

If you have a rental car in Symi for a few days, drop by Toli beach.
